Property taxes in Rehoboth to increase? By Hilary Corrigan Coast Press Reporter

"Rehoboth Beach will raise property taxes under a 2006-2007 budget proposal -- but the increase won't bother most, predicted city resident Hoyte Decker after a Jan. 27 budget review session with Rehoboth officials.

"People are not going to blink," he said of the likely reaction to raising the rates that have remained stable since 1993.

The tax would rise from $1.40 per $100 of assessed property value to $1.55 and bring the city an extra $90,000 for the year after tax bills go out in the summer.

The tax is based on the 1968 value of land and buildings. A tax now for an average lot and home worth $26,535 at that time, for instance, is about $371.

The city's single biggest revenue source remains the realty transfer tax that stems from property sales.

City Mayor Sam Cooper doesn't want Rehoboth to rely so heavily on that money that totals about $2 million each year and funds Rehoboth's operational costs, including city workers' salaries." For complete article click Delaware Property Taxes
